“We are orphans and have no father!” Mourning notice issued by the Mercaz HaRav Yeshiva upon the passing of our teacher and father, Rabbi Abraham Isaac HaKohen Kook (the Ra’ayah). Printed signatures of the heads of the yeshiva: his son, Rabbi Tzvi Yehuda Kook, and Rabbi Yaakov Moshe Charlap. The notice was issued shortly after his passing. Jerusalem, Elul 5695 – 1935.
“Our crown has fallen taken from us is our father, our great teacher, at whose feet we were raised and in whose dust we longed to be… Blessed is the True Judge, may His great name be blessed forever…”. The proclamation continues with an appeal by the rabbinic leaders for a soul-redemption fundraising campaign (terumat neshamah) on behalf of the Central World Yeshiva.
