Ada Maimon (Fishman, 1893–1973) was the daughter of Rabbi Elimelech Fishman, who, according to family tradition, were descendants of Maimonides. She was the sister of Yehuda Leib Fishman Maimon, one of the founders of the Mizrachi movement (both siblings changed their family name to “Maimon” due to their ancestral connection to Maimonides). Ada was one of the founders and leading figures of the Poalei Zion party and the Working Women’s Movement, a Knesset member representing Mapai in the First and Second Knessets, and one of the initiators of the Equal Rights for Women Law (1951). Throughout her life, she worked to improve the status of women and to ensure full equality of rights for them. Maimon is considered one of the key chroniclers of the history of the Working Women’s Movement in the Land of Israel and of the women’s liberation movement in the years preceding the establishment of the State.
