Musical Notes for All the Prayers of the Year, by Cantor Aron Friedmann. Published by the “Association of the German-Israelite Community, ” Berlin [1901]. German, with Hebrew prayer titles and indexes.

A large and comprehensive book containing hundreds of prayer sections with musical notes for all the prayers of the year – weekday prayers, Shabbat, the Three Festivals, and piyyutim for the High Holy Days. In the introduction, Friedmann explains that he had three goals in publishing the musical notes: to document traditional melodies that had not yet been systematically included in prayer books, preventing their disappearance; to offer a complete and flawless collection of cantorial melodies for use throughout the year; and to produce a practical learning book for young aspiring cantors and experienced cantors wishing to improve their skills.

Aron Friedmann served as the chief cantor of the Jewish community in Berlin in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The musical notes generally follow the traditional prayer melodies used in large Jewish communities. The book was published with the support of Jewish communities in Germany, including those of Berlin, Breslau, Frankfurt am Main, Posen, Leipzig, Hanover, Munich, and Silesia.
