“Names and Numbers of Youth and Children 1947–1948” – a folder containing 150 leaves listing thousands of children who were on their way to Eretz Israel or had just arrived at the time, and were dispersed among various settlements – She’erit HaPletah from the DP camps across Europe after the Holocaust. These lists were compiled by the Aliyat Hanoar organization, and the data on the children was collected at various centers in numerous countries throughout Europe, where Aliyat Hanoar Homes had been established to receive the youths prior to their immigration to Eretz Israel. The information was meticulously gathered, and the names and details were typewritten for the use of those responsible for caring for the children and placing them in institutions upon their arrival in Eretz Israel. An exceptionally rare historical record.
The folder contains detailed lists of thousands of children expected to arrive from various countries, with each child’s name accompanied by their date of birth and occasionally additional personal details. The lists include names of children en route to Eretz Israel from Germany, France, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Apeldoorn, Morocco, Tunisia, Cyprus, and other countries. Among the materials is a several-page detailed list of children who arrived in Eretz Israel from the Transport 500 – a group of approximately 500 Jewish children, some from Romania, who were transferred to the Netherlands in 1947 and housed at the Ilaniah Children’s Village in Apeldoorn before immigrating to Israel aboard the SS Negbah on October 6, 1948. The folder also includes various lists of children who were half-orphans or orphans from both parents, names of staff and counselors who cared for the children upon arrival, and names and details of She’erit HaPletah children received at institutions throughout the country such as Kiryat Shmuel, Atlit, Kfar HaRoeh, Yakir Institution, Aliyah Institution, Talpiot, Kfar HaNoar HaDati, Ora, Mikveh Israel, Hazorea, and others.
