An anti-Semitic train ticket distributed at railway stations in Germany during the 1930s with the travel details “One-way to Jerusalem.”
The ticket reads: Für alle Züge aus dem Reich Sahrkarte IV.KI. nach Jerusalem hin- und nicht mehr zurück Sahepreis 0.00 mě. Berlin 3102 – “For all trains from the Reich, Ticket IV.KI. one-way to Jerusalem with no return, Berlin. Serial number 3102.” German.
Such tickets were produced by Nazi propagandists and distributed by anti-Semites at railway stations in Germany to signal to Jews that they were not welcome. Notably, the incident involving Jewish members of the Frankfurt sports club is well known. After Hitler’s rise to power, at the end of April 1933, letters were sent to all club members informing them that they could no longer participate in the club’s events due to their Jewish identity. The letters were signed by the club’s vice-president, Karl Müller, and each letter included a one-way train ticket to Jerusalem, similar to the ticket presented here. (See article about Jeno Konard in Der Club magazine, 2007.)
A similar ticket is on display in the permanent exhibition at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.
Size: 8×4.5 cm. Very good condition.
