Out of Doors in holy land by Henry Van Dyke - New York Edition 1914 - Fine Copy.
Description of a journey in the Holy Land by Henry Van Dyck - a Dutch-American diplomat. Van Dyck toured the Land of Israel in 1907, and he describes views, people and history of the area - Jerusalem, Bethlehem and the surrounding area, Jaffa, and other cities. On reaching the Dead Sea, Van Dyck enthusiastically described it as "a large inland lake, lying 1300 feet below the level of the Mediterranean Sea, the water in the Dead Sea being so salty that it is impossible to sink." Arriving at the Mount of Olives, he notes that it is the most popular destination for pilgrims. The book is accompanied by high quality color lithographic plates. Original cover in art nouveau style decorated with golden stamping designed by the American artist Margaret Neilson Armstrong.
