Württemberger Heiliglandfahrt 1904. Ein Gedenkbuch ber Ersten Württemberger Wallfahrt ins Heilige Land bon Monsignore Dr. Emil Canonicus Schmit. Journey to the Holy Land, Württemberg 1904. Commemorative Book for the First Pilgrimage from Württemberg to the Holy Land, by Monsignor Dr. Emil Canon Schmidt. Stuttgart 1904 – Numerous photographs of the Holy Land taken by the touring group. Second edition published only two months after the first edition, with a map of Eretz Israel and a plan of Jerusalem and Bethlehem that were not included in the first edition, as well as a different and more elaborate cover design.

A detailed description of a 25-day journey to Eretz Israel conducted by “pilgrims.” The book is written in the form of a diary, chronicling the daily events of the journey, starting from the group’s departure from Württemberg, their transit through Rome via trains, and their arrival in Eretz Israel by ship. The group visited significant sites in Tiberias, Jaffa, Jerusalem, Jericho, and the Dead Sea, and interacted with various communities in the Holy Land in 1904. It provides detailed descriptions of the physical landscape and the customs of the local inhabitants. The book is accompanied by numerous private photographs taken by the group members, documenting people and sites in Eretz Israel, as well as many group photos of the members themselves, and images from the journey, starting with their departure and various transits by train and ship. In certain locations, they were hosted by locals who awaited their arrival. In the sections about Jerusalem, it is reported that 40,000 Jews lived in the Jewish Quarter, “most of whom live on the generous donations of their European co-religionists, who give them charity so that the donor’s name will be mentioned in the holy place.”
