Text of the poem “Mi Kamocha”, by Rabbi… Masud Zarmon, on the miracle that happened here…Oran. Accompanied by the story of the miracle in Arabic, an introduction and a French translation of the poem with a historical summary of the Oran community from its founding until today. Printed by Moshe Haloa, Oujda (Morocco) [1950]. At the beginning of the booklet is the story of the miracle that happened to the Oran community (Algeria) is brought in Judeo-Arabic, and in French in the second part.

After the conquest of Oran by France in 1830, the Jews were accused of collaborating with the French soldiers. The local Arabs planned to carry out a massacre of the Jews, and they cried out in prayers to G-d to save them from trouble throughout the night. In the morning it became known to the locals that French soldiers died in a miraculous way, as a result the Arabs shelved their plan and decided not to take revenge on the Jews, and in light of the quiet the Jews managed to flee in the morning without any harm coming to them. On this miracle and on other miracles of salvation, the Sephardim customarily read the poem “Mi Kamocha” on the 6th of Av in thanksgiving for the miracle called “Purim of Oran”. A full description of the miracle is given here in the booklet.
