Popeye the Sailor Man – The most famous comic and cartoon character in the world was invented by Elzie Segar on January 17, 1929 as one of the “Thimble Theater” comic characters. It is interesting to note that the reference to spinach as a fortifying food, came from the publication of a study, which due to an error in printing the decimal point, attributed to spinach an amount of iron 10 times higher than its true nutritional value.
