Price list for bottles of wine made by Verein – Bruderschaft – “Va’ad LaHevrah”. Bordeaux wines, “wine cards”, Moussirende wine, German and Yiddish. Frankfurt am Main, 19th century. extremely rare.
In the upper part is an illustration of a Jewish family around the dining table with the husband and wife in Eastern European clothing holding goblets of wine in their hands, and the inscription in German: “Who doesn’t like wine… and singing, will remain so until the end of his days”. In the center is a price list of different types of wine, and below is a folk phrase in Yiddish that means: “Before a person chooses his drink, let him first check the state of his money…”, and the communities where the wine is marketed – Frankfurt am Main and the surrounding area.
As far as we know it has never appeared at auction!
