The distribution enterprise of the English Jewish photographer Raphael Tuck opened in London in the early 1870s. Tuck & Sons holds a place of honor in the world of early postcards and photographs. Thanks to the beautiful and innovative postcards he created, Tuck was chosen to supply graphic materials to the British royal court. Tuck employed top graphic artists and designers, and due to high demand, his products were also distributed to the non-Jewish population. In the last decade of the 19th century, Tuck’s agency opened a branch on Broadway in New York, excelling in the production of Jewish ‘Happy New Year’ postcards at that time.
Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom (Alexandrina Victoria, 1819–1901), reigned from June 20, 1837, until her death, for 63 years and seven months, longer than any British monarch before her. She was also the first Empress of India from May 1, 1876. The British Empire greatly expanded during her rule, becoming the strongest empire in the world. Victoria was the granddaughter of King George III and the last British ruler of the House of Hanover. She is regarded as one of the most powerful women in human history.
