Rare photograph of the hanged bodies - Seven partisans from the Krakow unit were executed by hanging as punishment for blowing up a passing German train. Płaszów, Krakow. Occupied Poland, June 23, 1942.
The Germans left the hanging bodies for a week and called on local residents to come see the horrifying scene. As can be seen in the photo, residents including children came to watch. German soldiers can be seen on the left. Next to the bodies on the right can be seen a sign the Nazis placed reading "PIERWSZA POKUTA ZA TA KOLEJOWA DNIA 23.6.42" - First response for this railway on 23.6.1942.
