Real photo postcard documenting the moment of the surrender of Nazi Germany in Reims, France – official postmark from the site of the historic event in Reims: “7 MAI 1945 – REIMS – SALLE DE LA REDDITION” – “May 7, 1945 – Reims – Surrender Hall, ” as well as a handwritten dedication by a military chaplain who served in the United States Army.
The postcard shows the “Surrender Hall” (Salle de la Capitulation) at the modern college in Reims. This is the המקום where the initial German surrender agreement was signed on May 7, 1945, at 2:41 a.m. Visible in the photograph are the generals who were present at the signing ceremony (listed by name on the reverse of the postcard), among them Susloparov (Soviet), Spaatz (American), and Robb (British). On the reverse of the postcard is a handwritten dedication: “To Ewing – In grateful appreciation – Robert M. Parsons, Chaplain” – “To Ewing – In grateful appreciation – Robert M. Parsons, Chaplain.” Robert M. Parsons served as a military chaplain (Chaplain) in the United States Army during the Second World War. Military chaplains were an integral part of combat units and high command headquarters.
On the right is a rare official postal cancellation from the site of the event: “7 MAI 1945 – REIMS – SALLE DE LA REDDITION” (May 7, 1945 – Reims – Surrender Hall), and the cancellation date – July 7, 1945.
