Menachem Begin’s article on American-Russian relations, and on Israeli-American relations “which appeared, part in the “Herut” newspaper on Friday, March 27, 1953, while part of which was omitted due to the existence of political censorship in our country”. Published by the Herut movement’s information department, Nissan 1953. On the title page, Begin wrote: “To Meir Madan, who is made fearless … brought me two booklets, one kept with me in my lap, and the other is in front of you. M. Begin”.
Recipient of the booklet (that very rare in itself) Meir Madan, one of the leaders of the “Brit HaHashmonayim” that operated in Israel from 1937-1949, for the education of Hebrew youth, and in addition to its educational activities served as an operational manpower base for Irgun and Lehi operations and from 1945 also for the “Haggana”. Madan also served as a senior Irgun commander under the leadership of David Raziel. His extensive education and linguistic knowledge assisted him in translating military training materials for the Irgun, and in formulating the ideological principles of “Brit HaHashmonayim”. In the 1940s, he was appointed commander of the Lehi in Jerusalem and his underground nickname was “Gad”.
