Five Studio Photographs of Young Men from the East, Including Two Photographed by the Abdullah Frères (Stamped on the Back with “Abdullah Frères Studio”), and One Signed “Rosenfeld Studio, Tel Aviv.”
The three Ottoman-Armenian photographer brothers, Viçen Abdullahian (1820–1902), Hovsep Abdullahian (1830–1908), and Kevork Abdullahyan (1839–1918), were the official court photographers of the sultans Abdülaziz and Abdülhamid II. Known internationally during the late Ottoman Empire as “Abdullah Frères”, they gained widespread acclaim. The Abdullah Frères were renowned for photographing landscapes, prominent individuals, and Ottoman sultans. In 1863, Sultan Abdülaziz officially declared the Abdullah Frères as the “court photographers and outstanding artists of the city, ” a title they maintained until the studio closed in 1899. Throughout their illustrious careers, they photographed numerous Ottoman sultans, Ottoman statesmen such as İbrahim Edhem Pasha and Osman Nuri Pasha, international figures like Mark Twain, landscapes, and more.
