10 Anniversaire de la Liberation des camps hitleriens BUCHENWALD 56,000 morts … victimes du nazisme du militarisme Allemands plus jamais ca! Opposez vous a la renaissance du militarisme Allemand – “Tenth Anniversary of the Liberation of Hitler’s Camps BUCHENWALD – 56,000 dead … victims of Nazism and German militarism, Never Again! Resist the revival of German militarism” – A giant poster commemorating the tenth anniversary of the liberation of the Buchenwald death camp (liberated on April 11, 1945), published by the Federation Internationale des Résistants (International Federation of Resistance Fighters), Vienna.
A poster divided into nine poignant and harsh historical photographs that were taken at the Buchenwald death camp and document the horrific sights during its liberation days—the unimaginable mass murder on one hand and the salvation on the camp grounds on the other. The photographs: prisoners without clothes on wooden bunks as they were found on the day of liberation, dead bodies on transport carts, a view from above of the camp during its operation, the head of a woman who was decapitated, mummified, and kept by the Nazi commander Ilse Koch, a stolen artwork from the collection of the camp commander’s wife Ilse Koch, the camp’s entrance gate. On the other side, historical photos of memorial marches held by survivors and their liberators at the camp itself upon its liberation after the war.
