The poster opens with a declaration of crisis: “A decree of annihilation reigns in full force, and destruction, God forbid, has been decreed upon the holy Torah and its commandments. Synagogues have been locked shut, Torah schools completely uprooted, mikvahs destroyed, and special propagandists roam about to instill the idea of heresy into the hearts of young children…”. The broadside announces a general day of prayer to be held on the 27th of Adar at the Western Wall, “…to pour out our hearts in supplication over the burning of the Torah in exile…”.
