Rare postcard showing the Great Synagogue of Sydney on 187 Elizabeth Street – Australia. was mailed in 1908.
The synagogue was designed by Thomas Rowe and built between 1874 and 1878, and merged two communities that previously prayed in different synagogues. the impressive building was one of the first large buildings built in Sydney in Victorian style, the interior design of the synagogue incorporates Byzantine elements and features Gothic. And it is considered the most impressive and influential synagogue in all of Australian Jewry.
