Hichens' journey to the Holy Land took place during a time of great political and social upheaval in the region, which is evident in his book. Accompanied by high quality color lithographs and photo plates by Felix Bonfils and leading American firm Underwood & Underwood. Due to its success, the book was translated into several languages including French, German, Spanish and Italian.
