Rabbi Shmarihu Yosef Nissim Karlitz (1926-2019), was born in Kosova, Belarus, to Rabbi Nachum Meir Karlitz and Batya, the sister of the Chazon Ish. At first he was called 'Shmaryahu Yosef', after his grandfather Rabbi Shmaryahu Yosef Karlitz, and after a miracle was performed to him, they added the name 'Nisim' to him, and as it appears on his identity card, both names start with the initials S. Y. Karlitz. Rabbi Nissim immigrated to Eretz Israel with his parents in 1936, after his parents realized that they would be obligated to send them to the Polish school. Upon immigrating to Eretz Israel, he studied at the Tiferet Zion yeshiva. He continued his studies at the Lomza yeshiva and for a short time after the opening of the Ponivez yeshiva in the synagogue "Haligman", moved to study there on the recommendation of his uncle Maran HaChazon Ish. The certificate before us is from this period of Rabbi Nissim in Eretz Israel.
