The Nazi Colonial Doctrine. Two pages in stencil printing, signed by the resistance activist Robert Drieux, in which he details the basic principles of Nazi racial theory, as developed by Günther and Hecht, to warn the French and Jews about its dangerous implications: “These are, in broad terms, the prospects of the Nazi colonial paradise if the hopes of Dr. Hecht become the reality of tomorrow.” Dated May 27, 1938.

“In Munich, the Federation of Nazi Physicians publishes the bi-monthly Ziel und Weg. In issues 7 and 8 from April 19 and 15, 1938, Günther Hecht, a collaborator of the Rassennpolitisches Amt, reveals the features of the Nazi colonial doctrine. There are Herrenvölker (dominant peoples) who have the ‘natural’ right to rule over others… Almost everywhere the French entered indigenous communities; they destroyed the natural barriers between races with laws and decrees. They even went so far as to punish white people… The author’s tone grows darker and darker: ‘French law ignores distinctions of color and race, only recognizing differences in levels of civilization… Former Council President, Mr. Édouard Herriot, expressed his pride in seeing the highest positions in France held by mixed-race people. He sent “to our black brothers” in all colonial countries the message of fraternity from the French Parliament… In the forests of France, it is now very difficult to find white fathers in the population… The violation of natural laws and eternal life inevitably leads to decay – a descent into racial swamps…’After offering visions of the twilight of French colonialism, Dr. Hecht is forced to show, in contrast, how the German would act.
And here are the fundamental principles that Germany will again realize as a colonial power. First, we would seek to expel all Jews from the colonies. The Jew is the typical representative of the liberal and humanitarian ideology; under the auspices of these sources, apparently so generous and noble to mask the desire and will to exploit the poor native well. Against liberal and humanitarian ideas, Germany always thought in the German-Nordic way. Not through conquest did the pre-war Reich acquire its colonies, but through agreements with tribal leaders. Hence the term Schutzgebiete (protected territories). The German is Schutzheer (master protector), the native is Schutzbr-fohlen (protected bearer)… The worst Nazi National Socialist colonialism will never allow the native to become a full citizen or even national, meaning they will never enjoy any political rights. It is self-evident that racial legislation absolutely forbids any marriage or cohabitation between white people on one side, and mixed or bastard people on the other. The recklessness of races of different colors, for instance between yellow and black, will even be impossible… Therefore, the natives will not be allowed to participate in cinemas and theaters unless special films are available for them. These are, in broad terms, the prospects of the Nazi colonial paradise if the hopes of Dr. Hecht become the reality of tomorrow.
