Wolf published these writings in response to a series of anti-Semitic articles in the British Morning Post, which sought to revive the blood libel depicted in the Protocols—an “international conspiracy… brought to life today.” The recurring anti-Semitic claim in this series was that every global political unrest is a direct result of the “sinister hand” of the Jewish “dreadful cult, ” which allegedly operated continuously since the French Revolution. Wolf demonstrates how the claim of a “world conspiracy” matured even before Jews were accused of it, and how, over the course of the 19th century, anti-Semitic propagandists shifted the blame onto the Jews. The author explains how the plot presented in the Protocols was concocted, who the individuals behind it were, the efforts made to embed it as “historical truth, ” and the forged anti-Semitic documents used. He exposes the internal contradictions in the writings of the anti-Semites who created the Protocols, and their ignorance regarding Jewish rituals of the Freemasons.
