“Pourquoi l’ouvrier allemand est-il pour Adolf Hitler?” – “What is the German Worker for Adolf Hitler?” By Hans Munter, Published by Maison Internationale d’Édition, Brussels, 1941 – First Edition. A rare anti-Semitic booklet attributing the “success” of the German working class to the defeat of Jewish dominance in Germany. French.

A highly rare publication written in an overtly anti-Semitic tone, portraying an idealized and utopian reality of the German working class under the leadership of the Führer, after being “liberated” from Jewish control before Hitler’s rise to power. The booklet opens by describing the hardships experienced by the German working class before the Nazis took control—years during which, according to the author, workers were exploited and controlled by trade unions run by Jews. The author claims that Jews, through these unions and constant criticism of German nationalism, prevented the formation of a united national movement among workers. It is further alleged that the Jewish press opposed the Nazi movement in its early days, spreading the “false claim” that its goal was to humiliate workers and turn them into slaves.

The author details how the “salvation” of German workers arrived with the rise of the Nazi party: unemployment was reduced, the economy revived, and workers received the “command and direction” they had previously lacked. The new organization, under Nazi leadership, is claimed to have protected workers’ rights, fostered a thriving business community, and significantly improved the condition of the German worker. Over the seven years of Hitler’s rule, according to the pamphlet, workers transitioned from skepticism and insecurity to firm faith and confidence in the Führer: “Now the burden has been lifted, and a new, equitable social order has been established.” The text emphasizes that German workers regained their national pride through Hitler’s unwavering leadership: “Hitler performed this miracle, ” it states, “we received command and direction that had been lacking for years.” In a characteristically anti-Semitic propaganda style, the author asserts that as “Jewish Marxism” declined and its influence diminished, German workers’ national pride flourished. He concludes by stating that “the German worker stands by Adolf Hitler because the Führer has awakened a new hope in him.”

The booklet includes photographs of Hitler visiting German labor centers in the 1930s, as well as images of organized worker excursions across Germany, meant to showcase the “new freedom” of the worker under the Nazi regime.
