First edition with the approbation of the sage Zvi in tractate Pah 19:12 long gloss [32 lines] in the handwriting of Rabbi Ze’ev Wolf Heidenheim signed “Wolf D.”
The Ga’on Rabbi Ze’ev Wolf Heidenheim (1717-1832), commentator and scholar. In 1799, Heidenheim established a well-known printing press in the town of Radelheim in the outskirts of Frankfurt. His books were considered to be of special prestige, because he had taken great pains in proofreading and design. In his printing press, he printed his works on grammar, his precise subjects according to the Masoretic teachings, and his famous machzorim, “Sefer karavot”, in which he formulated precise prayer formulas and contributed greatly to the study of the textual traditions and the preservation of the piyutim of Ashkenazic communities.
The Chatam Sofer agreed to his books. In many of his sermons and writings, the Chatam Sofer presents the commentaries and glosses of “החכם השלם מו”ה וואלף היידנהיים”.
