Reichspräsidentenwahl - ballot paper for the Reichstag presidential elections. Germany, 1932.

The three candidates in the elections held in Germany that year were Paul von Hindenburg, Adolf Hitler, and Ernst Thälmann.

The presidential elections were held in Germany on March 13, 1932, with a second round on April 10. Incumbent independent German President Paul von Hindenburg won a second seven-year term after defeating his main rival, Adolf Hitler, of the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP). The leader of the Communist Party (KPD) Ernst Thälmann also ran and received more than ten percent of the vote in the second round. This was the second and last direct election for the office of President of the Reich (Reichspräsident), the head of state of Germany under the Weimar Republic.
That year, the manifestations of enthusiastic antisemitism and ostentatious German nationalism represented by the Nazi party led many on the left to support Hindenburg. However, Hindenburg's re-election failed to prevent the Nazi party from coming to power. Two consecutive federal elections later that year left it as the largest party in the Reichstag and most parties anti-republican. Left with no choice, under this political climate, Hindenburg appointed Hitler as Chancellor of Germany in January 1933. Hindenburg's death in 1934 marked the official end of the Weimar Republic and the beginning of the Nazi era.

15x11.5 cm. Minor stains. Good condition.
