The photograph shows a large group of children in one of the hostels in Reims, France. At this stage they are described as the sons of "prisoners of war" who were given accommodation on the initiative of the French newspaper L'ECLAIR DE L'EST, but in fact most of the children shown here are orphans, whose parents will never return.
