Joan Miró i Ferrà (1893-1983) a painter, sculptor and potter born in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, one of the great artists of the stream of abstract surrealism. Miro has worked in three cities - Paris, New York and Barcelona and lives quite a bit on the line between these three cities, all three of which hold some of his famous works. Miro had a great influence on the painters of abstract expressionism, including Gorky, Pollock, Ida Colmeier and Rothko. In 1954 he won the print prize of the Venice Biennale Exhibition, and in 1980 he received the gold medal for fine arts from the King of Spain, Juan Carlos I. Today his paintings are currently selling for several million dollars. Many of his works are on display at the Juan Miró Institute in Barcelona.
