הארסט וועסעל דער נאצישער קדוש - Horst Wessel The Nazi saint: by S.Z. Wolf [Shmuel Wohlman]. Warsaw, 1935 - only edition. Yiddish. Rare publication during the height of Nazi atrocities against Jews, in the context of the murder of the Nazi party member Horst Wessel and the accusations against Jewish communist involvement in the murder.

A rare publication from Warsaw in response to the Nazi riots against Jews on the day of the death of Horst Wessel. Wessel was a member of the Nazi Party in Germany who wrote the song "Die Fahne hoch" - ("The Flag Raised High"), which became the Nazi party's anthem. ( see here ). He was born in 1907 and already in his youth began to associate with extreme right-wing groups. In 1926, he began to act against the opponents of the Nazi party and organized attacks especially against Jews, after earning a clear reputation as a Jew-hater, he became the close friend of Joseph Goebbels. He wrote his famous song in 1929. The song, which praised the Nazi storm troopers, was published in the Nazi newspaper "Der Angriff" ("The Attack"), and after his death, in 1931, the song became the official anthem of the Nazi party and was ranked alongside the national anthem "Deutschland Über Alles" at official events, where thousands of Germans sang the words of the song: "When Jewish blood spurts from the knife, then we will rejoice and be happy" (It should be noted that after World War II, as part of the denazification policy, the song was banned by law in Germany under sections 86 and 86A of the German Criminal Code). Wessel was killed in 1930 after a quarrel with his landlady. She turned to the Communists, who caught him in his apartment and shot him to death. One of his assassins was Eli Horowitz, a Jewish Communist thug with connections in the underworld. Even before he was buried, Goebbels started turning him into a "saint" of the Nazi party, and his funeral became a real spectacle. Every year, around the date of his death, the Nazis used the event as an opportunity to attack and harass Jews.
The publication was written in response to these riots. The first part of the book deals with Wessel the man who has been violent since childhood, describing his criminal actions. The second part of the book deals with the details of a specific event in which he was murdered, who exactly was involved in the murder, and how the Nazi party used manipulation of events to take revenge on Jews. The author shows how all those involved in the murder were motivated by personal revenge, rather than political motives between Jews and Germans, and how the Nazis killed innocent Jews in the months before the book was written, claiming they were communist and involved in the murder. Additionally, the author describes in detail the enthusiasm and euphoria of the Nazi masses, every time the "Horst Wessel Song" (quoted in full in the book) was played at party ceremonies, and every time the Nazis marched and sang the song, reports of violence and murders of Jews followed directly after.
