Bezalel's Plan and Purpose, Jerusalem, 1906. Rare publication by Boris Schatz, which was published just five months after the founding of Bezalel School of Art - "dedicated to the members of the Great Executive Committee". Hebrew, and English.
In the booklet, Boris Schatz presents for the first time his vision regarding the goals of the newly established Bezalel School. Schatz writes about the importance of the craft, and explains the principles underlying Bezalel: "The Bezalel company took on the role of developing the mentioned crafts ... in the Land of Israel, and hopes that by doing so it will enable the healthy and young foundation of the Jews to remain In Israel and those who come again to settle in it." Schatz charts his vision of the integration of Bezalel artists in European markets, the opening of additional art schools to follow in the footsteps of Bezalel, as well as the expected global commercial success of the school's various departments - the carpet, weaving department, and more. Throughout the booklet, the spirit of vision and revival is evident, and Schatz's belief that Bezalel will change the face of Hebrew society in Eretz Israel and in the world. Extremely rare.
