La Ménagerie Impériale by P. HADOL - a complete booklet containing 31 hand-painted lithographs - cartoons of French Prime Ministers during Napoleon's President of the Second French Republic by Paul Hadol (1835-1875). Published by IMP COULBOEUF PARIS. Paris, c. 1870.

The tablets show the portraits of the heads of the French Empire in the form of predatory and rodent animals, which ruled France for 20 years, and which caused the overthrow of the imperial government: Napoléon III, Eugénie, Le Rejeton impérial, Le Prince Napoléon, La Princesse Mathilde, Pierre Bonaparte, Rouher, Emile Ollivier, Haussmann, Margueritte, Bélanger, Devienne, Persigny, Piétri, Schneider, Cassagnac, Jérôme David, Zangiacomi, Fleury, Pinard, De Failly, Bernier, Frossard, Conneau, Maupas, Palikao, Newerkerke, Leboeuf, Chevreau, Musée des empaillés (3 planches)

The style of the illustrator who likens the rulers to different animals inspired V. Lenepveu who designed the series of the Anti-Semitism posters 'Exhibition of Monsters' published in France during the Dreyfus affair between 1899 and 1900.

A complete set of 31 boards. Original cover. Size: 28x19 cm. Slight tears in the folder spine. Good condition.
