The earliest illustrated scrolls were written and illustrated by Moshe ben Avraham Pescarol from Ferrara, Italy. It was more than 4 meters long and 27 cm high and was commissioned for Mordechai Ben Eliyahu El Halevi, from the town of Brescello, near Parma.
It is known that two other scrolls of Esther were written by Moshe Ben Avraham, one in the Bill Gross collection, and the other in Manchester.
