EXCAVATION OF GEZER 1902-1905 AND 1907-1909 By Robert Alexander Stewart McAllister - III volumes, published by John Murray For The Palestine Exploration Fund, London 1912.

Three volumes with dozens of photographs and illustrations showing the results of the author's research on Gezer. Volume I deals with the land itself, Volume II with the finds of the land, and the third part devoted entirely to illustrations and drawings of the various finds that were found and typical of the area, some of the illustrations in the third part are in color.

The Author Robert Alexander Stuart McAllister [1870- 1950] British archaeologist. In the first decade of the 20th century he headed the British Foundation for the Study of the Land of Israel (P.E.F) and conducted the excavations in the biblical Gezer, in which he revealed the Gezer tablet. His excavation in Gezer became a landmark in the field of archeological methodology in the Land of Israel. McAllister conducted the great archeological excavation by himself in the full sense of the word. In addition to the excavation work itself, which was done by Arab manual laborers from the nearby village of Abu Shosha, He dealt with the organization engaged in supervising a large number of workers, measuring the remains, drawing them, and so on. His digging in Gezer is a clear example of a "one-man orchestra". His findings were published in 1911-1912 in the three volumes before us under the name "The Excavation of Gezer". After the excavation project in Gezer, McAllister almost disappeared from the excavation map of Eretz Israel. In 1923 he returned to dig in the City of David, the "tiered structure" he uncovered, at the top of the eastern slope of the hill has occupied the scholars ever since, both in terms of determining its exact date and in terms of its architectural essence.

A copy from Eliyahu HaCohen Library (with his personal Ex-libris) - Israel Prize winner for Lifetime Achievement 2013.
