Rare document from the "der israelitischen Kultusgemeinde" - the Jewish Religious Community in Vienna, "Authorization for Submission to the Military Authorities" - Authorization from the Jewish Religious Community in Vienna that according to the documents presented to them, Jakob Goldberg is Jewish. At this stage, the leaders of the Jewish community did not know that the Jews were being sent to their destruction, and they authorized forms of this kind for purposes of "emigration". Vienna, August 1938, just a few months after the Anschluss (the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany). Extremely rare.

The document states that Jakob Goldberg born in 1910, is a Jew, and was presented to the Nazi military registration authorities in Vienna for the purpose of obtaining "emigration" approval. The Jewish authorities in Vienna did not know at this stage that the declaration of "Jew" meant being sent to destruction. Among the other signatures and stamps is an ink stamp approving Goldberg's "emigration". In practice, documents of this kind served as a tool for the Nazis to locate Jews, organize lists, and later send them to their destruction. Very few Jews were actually allowed to emigrate from occupied Austrian territory. The document was received by the Nazis and bears ink stamps from the Nazi military registration office in Vienna.

21x15 cm. Fold marks. Minor tears in the margins. Good condition.
