Isaac Stern 1920-2001: Born in Kremnitz, Ukraine. Started playing the piano at the age of 6, and received his first music lessons from his mother. In his childhood, his family immigrated to the United States, settling in San Francisco. Influenced by a friend, he decided to move to the violin and enrolled in the San Francisco Conservatory in 1928. He was in constant and warm contact with Israel and played many concerts with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Was known for his refusal to play under the direction of Herbert von Karaine, who collaborated with the Nazi regime and even saluted in concert immediately after the Anschluss in Austria. Remember especially the event during the Gulf War, as part of a tour of Israel, at one of the concerts in Jerusalem with which he participated, alarms were sounded warning of missile fire, and the orchestra players got up and left the hall. Stern remained, playing a solo work by Bach, in front of an audience wearing gas masks. The event with the symbolic dimension became famous, and aroused sympathy for Stern on the part of Jews and the free world in general.
