Booklet - official document announcing new regulations and the abolition of "old taxes" in the kingdom, by order of Leopold, Grand Duke of Baden. Among the clauses that appear - the abolition of fines given to Jews, recalculation of compensation that was supposed to reach Jews who were injured during their work and was not received, relief on double taxation for Jews, and more. Among the regulations, it was also determined that taxes paid would be abolished retroactively: "The old taxes that Jews have to pay today as a result of their religious status will be abolished starting from June 1, 1828".
Among other things, there are two detailed tables explaining the total cost of the various taxes imposed on the general and Jewish population, and in which clauses abolitions were made, and more.
In 1830, Leopold's half-brother, Grand Duke Ludwig I of Baden, died, and Leopold became the ruler in his place. Leopold supported the liberal ideas spreading at the time and even granted concessions to citizens. The easing of the special tax imposed on Jews for centuries was part of a general reform he implemented to improve the well-being of all citizens. In March 1848, protests erupted against Leopold, part of the revolutions of the Spring of Nations, but he managed to suppress them quickly. On April 24, 1852, Leopold died, and his son Ludwig II, Grand Duke of Baden, came to power in his place.
