"The Peaceful Use of Atomic Energy" by Abba Eban - "Ambassador of Israel to the United States and Permanent Representative to the UN", published by the Israel Office of Information - New York 1954 - copy signed by Abba Eban.

Full transcript of Abba Eban's speech at a US conference attended by several country representatives, regarding the development of nuclear energy and its "peaceful uses", addressing at length the danger of atomic energy to humanity and Israel's nuclear development. Eban explains why within a single year of Israel's establishment it felt it necessary to lay the foundations for its nuclear program by establishing the Isotope Research Department at the Weizmann Institute and the Physics Department at Hebrew University. He also encourages cooperation between states participating in a special International Scientific Committee established to deal with the issue, reducing the risk of independent and uncontrolled production of atomic energy.

On May 28, 1950 at age 35, Eban was appointed Ambassador of Israel to the United States, concurrently serving as Ambassador to the UN - positions he held until summer 1959. In his UN and Washington roles Eban shaped Israel's diplomatic activity and Israel's information system. During his tenure the first US economic aid to Israel was achieved, the "Bonds" organization established, and on his initiative AIPAC was founded in the US to lobby on Israel's behalf, institutionalizing the activity of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.
