25 photographs of Hebrew builders and construction in the Nordia neighborhood in the 1930s. In them, group photographs of workers, and workers while working, laying foundations for buildings, and more. Tel Aviv 1934.
The first settlers in the Nordia neighborhood of Tel Aviv were in fact survivors of the Jaffa riots in 1921 who sought to find a safe place in nearby Tel Aviv. They were incorporated into the 'Homelessness Association', which founded private homes on land purchased by the Israel National Fund. It was the first (and almost only) neighborhood in Tel Aviv founded on the JNF land. The neighborhood officially established on Tu B'Shvat in 1922 was named 'Nordia' after the Zionist leader Max Nordau. In its early years, it was a Barracks neighborhood of hundreds of families. In the 1930s and 1940s, low-cost Eastern European settlements were settled in the neighborhood, which came due to the low cost of living there. At the end of 1970, only about 10 Barracks were left. And about two years later, the construction of the "Dizengoff Center" project on its land began.
