The American Colony in Jerusalem Began In 1881, when an affluent American family from Chicago named Safford decided to leave their homeland and settle in Jerusalem, they led a cooperative lifestyle, and from the beginning they were involved in providing help and relief to the local population. The beginning of the photography industry of the American colony began with the visit of the German emperor Wilhelm II in 1898, the photographers of the colony Fr. Vester and Elijah Myers produced a spectacular series of photographs with dozens of images. From this period onwards, the Palestine photography industry of the colony developed, and it operated continuously for about fifty years [1898-1946]. And are considered to this day to be the highest quality photographs of the Land of Israel. Photographs of the members of the colony themselves are rare.
