The genius and Kabbalist author Rabbi Aharon Shlomo Maharil was born in Žagarė, Lithuania, a disciple of Kabbalist Rabbi Shlomo Eliyashov - the "Leshem" - (the elder of Maran Rabbi Elyashiv ztl). He Immigrated to Eretz Israel and settled in Jerusalem. He was one of the oldest and greatest of the Kabbalists in Jerusalem and the head of yeshivat Sha'ar HaSamayim. He was a disciple of Rabbi Chaim Shaul HaCohen Dawik and became very close to the Tzaddikim of Jerusalem: Rabbi Avraham Simcha Horowitz of Baranov and Rabbi Shlomo Eliezer Alfandari. He was one of the founders and leaders of the "Devri Haim" yeshiva of Rabbi Jacob Halberstam, the Admor of Tshakawa, and taught Kabbalah there. He was in close contact with the Chazon Ish, and exchanged letters with him. He also corresponded and became friends with the Satmar Rebbe, Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum. Rabbi Asher Zelig was one of the greatest fighters against the reformers and Zionists.
