Typewritten documents (including two handwritten letters) that were printed in the Bologna DP camp in Italy, in the years 1946-1948 [Italian] and deal with, among other things: The health of the survivors of the camp, reports from the camp liberators about the situation of the prisoners, an attempt to locate relatives of survivors, testimonies of survivors of pogroms and abuses by Italian fascists in Rome and its environs, and attempts to find war criminals according to their testimony. After the Holocaust, Western allies set up DP camps in areas they controlled in Germany, Austria, and Italy. These camps housed about a quarter of a million survivors of the concentration camps and the remnants of the Holocaust, as well as survivors who fled east deep into the territories of the Soviet Union, and returned after the war. In the camps, the survivors began the process of returning to life while dealing with the loss. They were among the first to investigate the Holocaust and commemorate its memory. They collected first testimonies from survivors, collected written documentation and held memorial rallies for Holocaust victims. At the same time, they established theaters and orchestras, held sporting events and published more than seventy newspapers and magazines in Yiddish. They learned, acquired a profession, started families and prepared themselves for a new life. Between 1945 and 1951, about 70,000 Jewish refugees and displaced persons lived in total of 35 DP camps operated in Italy, About 50,000 of them immigrated to Israel in those years.
