On the title page a handwritten inscription by Rabbi David Zalah: 'A gift given from Rabbi David Sasson [the well-known collector of the' Sasson Collection'] to the wise Eliyahu H. Yaakov Yosef H. Musa Barakel, and I the last redeemer The young David chai Zalah Ya'akov Yechezkel'. Throughout the book glosses in the handwriting of the genius Rabbi David Zalach, some of them signed with the initials of his name.
Before us is a rare copy from David Sasson's collection. As the book's owner testifies, he purchased the book from Rabbi Eliyahu Barakel, who recently received it from David Sasson.
The genius Rabbi David Hai Zalach , one of the greatest Iraqis, teach Torah in the Great Talmud Torah, a saint man. He authored a book " Korbenot Tzadik" which was printed in Baghdad in 1867. Died on 23 of Adar in [1900].
The first owner of the book,
Rabbi Eliyahu Barakel , one of the great Babylonians, served as head of the yeshiva in the village of Yehezkel the Prophet, and at the end of his life, in Baghdad. He served as a slaughterer and was a supreme authority in Babylon in all matters of slaughter. Died in 1918.
