Large poster with pictures of 250 members of the Egged Co-operative, 1942.
At the center is a map of the Land of Israel with Egged's transport routes (including a route leading to the eastern Jordan and Syria), and the year 1942. The corners of the poster shows the company's buses and taxis against the backdrop of the Tower of David and various buildings. Among the members are Yitzhak Amdursky, Yitzhak Goldstein, Shalom Greenberg, Yitzhak Goldman, the Kirshenbaum brothers and others.
Egged was founded as a cooperative on January 1, 1933, by the merger of four small public transport companies in the center of the country: 'hamahir'', 'hege'', 'Kadima' and 'drivers union'. The name "Egged" was proposed by Chaim Nachman Bialik. At that time, the company operated regular lines between Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa, as well as lines to Syria, Lebanon, Transjordan, Egypt and Iraq. Egged drivers continued their regular work during the 1936-1939 riots, despite the difficulties of coping with the Arab ambushes and the danger of life that was accompanied by an interurban journey. The year in which the postert was made merged into the transportation the service of Yosef Rashel, who operated lines from Tiberias to Yavniel and El Hama. As can be seen drivers almost all of them at a relatively old age, since the company preferred to employ those with experience and appearance that would provide security for passengers.
Size: 52x42 cm. Color peeling at the top, fine condition.
