The 1936 Olympic hockey tournament was held between August 4th-15th, 1936. India won its third consecutive Olympic gold medal in the sport. The Indian team was led by Dhyan Chand, considered one of the greatest hockey players of all time. Chand scored 14 goals in the tournament, including 8 in the final against Germany. The final was played between India and Germany, with India winning 8-1. The tournament was held on two pitches, Hockey Stadium and Hockey Court No. 2, and was attended by nearly 200,000 spectators in total. British India won the gold medal, Germany won the silver medal, and the Netherlands won the bronze medal.
