A letter from the chief rabbi of Jerusalem, Rabbi Moshe Franco [signed with his seal], as well as the signature of the president of the committee, Rabbi Yitzhak Levy, and Rabbi Chaim Aharon Valero to the head of the rabbis of the Land of Israel, Rabbi Chaim Nahum Elfandari zt'l. In their letter, the geniuses ask for an exemption from conscription to the English army for the yeshivot scolars and the sages, and implore the chief rabbi to obtain an immediate exemption from conscription for them at the outbreak of the First World War in 1914.
Rabbi Moshe Yehuda Franco [1837 - 1917] the chief rabbi of the island of Rhodes and the 33rd Rishon L'Zion in Eretz Israel, "Chacham Bashi".
