A letter in the handwriting and signature of a student of the Mir Yeshiva in Shanghai, Rabbi Yaakov Mordokhavatz, Written in Shanghai while he was exiled with the Mir yeshiva, and was sent to Rabbi Kosovsky of Johannesburg with a request to obtain an immigration permit for him to Africa where he wishes to serve as a Moreh Horaha in one of the communities. [1940s'].
In his letter, he states that he studied at the Mir yeshiva for about 13 years during which he learned Shas and poskim and adds that: "Even during the days of the bitter wanderings [of the Mir yeshiva during the war from Mir to Shanghai] I did not prevent myself from this Ohel moed... perhaps His son, Rabbi Michal Shalit'a, knows me from the days of the G-d's anger, I remained lonely and my desire is to find a place of rest for me among my family members in Africa...". The writer adds that he received a teaching permit from several rabbis and is ready to serve as a Moreh Horaha in any community which agree to receive him.
