A rare photograph of Workers during the construction of the 'first building' in the city of Afula [1925].
The Hebrew city of Afula was founded in 1925 by a settlement Zionist society called the "American Zionist community". With the sale of Afula land to the community of Zion, the Arab armies were evacuated for low compensation. The company sold the field to designated settlers in two locations, in the United States and Poland. Most purchasers of plots in the United States did not come to settle in Afula and saw the purchase of a lot there as a contribution between Zionist settlement and investment in the latter days. Polish Jews who bought land in Afula did indeed come to settle there, and they were the first settlers in the city founded in 1925.
