A large group photograph showing students of the 'Tushia' school in Vilnius and their teachers. It can be seen that some children wear a kippah, or with Peot and others without. The teacher that sitting in the center - Star of David on his shirt. The 1920s.

Vilna, which had undergone many governmental upheavals in the early decades of the 20th century, was a vibrant Jewish center, and in fact there was expression in every one of the known streams: Zionists, religious, ultra-Orthodox, the Bund, and Poalei Zion on the left. Due to the multitude of educational institutions, as well as the Changing the worldview of the Jews themselves, students from different streams could be found in one class. In fact, 'Tushia' was a private school that incorporated sacred and Holy studies. In 1922 'Tushia' numbered 11 elementary schools. Usually the students came from financially simple homes, and some did not require tuition, and also studied the orphans of the city who received lunch at school.
