The Binding of Isaac - Painting on glass. Probably Moshe ben Yitzchak [chah] Mizrahi [Tehrani]. Early 20th century.

At the bottom left is Avraham Yitzchak and the boys on their way to Akida, the line 'שובו לכם פה [על] החמור', on the right Avraham prepares the altar, above left Yitzchak is tied on the altar, and the climax of the binding - the angel holds the knife in Avraham's hand and prevents him from slaughtering his son.

Moshe Ben Yitzhak Mizrahi (Shah) [before 1870, - 1940] Hebrew painter and illustrator born in Iran. His monumental works rely on a long iconographic tradition of depicting the holy places of Judaism. c. 1890 Immigrated to Eretz Israel and settled in the Old City of Jerusalem. In his profession he was an artist but also a rabbi and a STM writer. The nickname "chah" was given to him because he became famous as a genius in the game of chess. In Jerusalem he opened a religious and useful art workshop. After the events of 1929, he moved his workshop to Nahalat Shivah. In 1940, he died and was buried on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.
