THE HORRORS OF WITTENBERG - OFFICIAL REPORT - An official report to the British government was submitted to the British government on the conditions of the British prisoners' detention in the Wittenberg camp at the beginning of the First World War. London 1916.

A report on the manner in which British POWs were held in the Wittenberg - Germany camp during WWI. The report reveals the appalling conditions in which British, French and Belgian prisoners were held, in terrible overcrowding in a severely infected area with typhoid fever. Mattresses soaked in the virus gave the new prisoners who came to the camp to be infected too. There were no sanitary conditions in the camp. 15,000 prisoners were admitted to an area of less than 10 acres. The British prisoners were given only thin cotton shirts in the freezing cold, and the shoes were taken from them so that they had to tread barefoot in the freezing cold. The food given to them was usually old and rotten. The camp area was badly infested even with lice, and other diseases.

A historical report dealing with an unknown affair which has not received sufficient attention in the history books.

32 p. Good condition.
