Victor Guerin [1821-1891] - French scholar, visited Eretz Israel eight times since 1852. Won the French Academy of Sciences Prize for his book "The Holy Land - Its History and Memories" published in 1881–1883. Unlike contemporary researchers who visited Eretz Israel, Guerin often quotes from Hebrew sources such as the Bible, the Mishnah and the Talmud, as well as the essays of Jewish travelers such as Rabbi Yitzhak Hilu and Binyamin M'Tudela. Guerin's travel diaries indicate the exact times of visit to each and every site and the directions of the journey. The research of Hebrew scholars Benjamin Mazar and Joshua Ben-Arieh relies on the results of Guerin's research.
